Would you like to make a French tufted mattress cushion using traditional techniques?

French mattress cushions are wonderfully versatile and can be used for window seats, benches, day beds, dining chairs, garden seating, floor cushions and much more.

After learning the techniques, you will be able to make these beautiful tufted cushions in different sizes and for a variety of projects at home.

Working step-by-step from a sample pattern, this will give you the opportunity to practice each stage under guidance.

Your finished sample will provide you with a useful reference to take home, as well as the skills and techniques needed to make your own French mattress cushions in different sizes.

With expert guidance throughout the day and a maximum of four students you will leave with the confidence to recreate the processes at home.

Your tutor, Sarah is a Master Upholsterer who has been teaching upholstery and soft furnishings since 2012.  Her workshops are deliberately kept small to ensure every student receives a high level of individual guidance.

During this workshop you will discover techniques used by professional soft furnishers:

• Accurately measure and cut your fabric

• Prepare and construct the cushion

• Mark out the cushion ready for tufting

• Machine stitch the cushion cover

• Prepare the cushion filling

• Work the traditional French mattress stitch around the edges, creating the characteristic rolled or ‘pie crust’ edge.

• Add the tufting stitches through the cushion
