
This course is designed specifically to offer comprehensive training for you to start a career within the upholstery sector. The course will provide you with an excellent level of practical skills and an understanding of the legal regulations and requirements of becoming a professional
upholsterer.
You can be assured of a high level of tuition, all classes are limited
to a maximum of 6 students.
The course duration is a minimum 8 weeks/40 days from
9.30am-4.45pm and must be completed within a 12 month
period. Classes run continually throughout the year giving you the
flexibility to choose your start date and day/s you wish to book.

Business Course in Traditional & Modern upholstery

The tuition cost for the course is £2800.00
(if completed within 40 days) payable in
instalments throughout the course.
Before embarking on the course you are required to book a taster day giving you the opportunity to meet fellow students already studying the business course and ensure MODE's style of teaching is a good fit for
you.
You are required to work on actual projects rather than sample frames. This teaches you all aspects of the exercise and you will have projects for your portfolio of furniture to show future clients.

Traditional methods & materials - Deep button exercise
Modern methods & materials - Parker Knoll armchair
Traditional methods & materials - Traditional nursing chair
Machine sew a seat box or T shaped cushion
Introduction to french polishing
Single & Double Piping & Hand made trimmings
Final Project - A project of your own choice

Health & Safety in the workplace
UK's furniture & Furnishings (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 relating to domestic furniture and furnishings
Martindale abrasion test.
Correct use of tools and equipment, hand & mechanical tools
Upholstery Fillings & Materials
Cutting Plans & Pattern Matching
Understanding frame repairs
Portfolio
For the duration of the course each student is required to compile a record of their practical and theory work to include:
Health & Safety awareness
Description of processes
Sketches & or photographs of processes
Materials used for each process and suitability
Tools used for each process and suitability
Basic design, cutting plans and fabric calculations
Tools are provided along with protective equipment, if you prefer to use your own tools feel free to bring them with you.
Upholstery supplies are charged for on an as used basis.
There's secure parking at MODE and the training room is on the ground floor.
